Boot camp or recruit training is the initial indoctrination and instruction given to new 7th Cavalry personnel. The process of transforming civilians into soldiers of the 7th Cavalry is the responsibility of the recruit training command or RTC.

The recruit who cannot work as part of a team (the unit) and comply with the routine tasks of basic training, therefore, is more likely to place him/herself, comrades, and the mission in jeopardy and thus might fail. The training regularly includes physical fitness, and instruction in military courtesy, tradition, history, and weapon accuracy and control. Upon enlistment new recruits have 7 days to complete all portions of boot camp.

Overview

Drill instructor

Drill instructors or DIs are the instructors that are responsible for the training that takes place in boot camp. They accompany new recruits throughout the training process, instructing and correcting them in everything from correct procedures for firing a weapon to the correct way of speaking to a superior.

Hands on Evaluation

For many hands-on evaluation sessions, recruits are transported to locations that specialize in the given subject. For instance, a class on the use of the Claymore anti-personnel land mine is given at a location where a field is already set up with the appropriate props for the simulation, including targets that recruits can practice on. The specific evaluations and exercises vary from game to game and will not be disclosed to new recruits until they are in boot camp to ensure proper evaluation.

Discharge From Boot Camp

A recruit can be discharged from the 7th Cavalry before the conclusion of boot camp. Discharges that occur before the completion of boot camp are considered uncharacterized, which are neither honorable nor less than honorable. It can be done either by request of the new recruits (drop on request) or because of failure to complete the boot camp within the allotted time. New recruits discharged in this fashion are usually allowed to re-enlist at later time and are given a chance to go through boot camp again.

Graduation

Upon successful completion of boot camp, new recruits are usually promoted to private and assigned to a section within a week. S1 will then create an Avatar for the newly promoted private and update the MILPAC of those new recruits.

Honor Graduate

During a boot camp, Drill instructors can select a basic training honor graduate, who will receive a award for his/her performance and is eligible to be promoted directly to Private First Class.
