In the 7th Cavalry, First Sergeant (CSM) is rank (Administratively known as First Sergeant E-8 (CSM)). The Command Sergeant Major is the principal Senior NCO of the Regiment. He assists the Commanding General and advises him on all matters relating the NCO Corps. The Command Sergeant Major is the undisputed ruler of the NCO Corps, and all NCOs, regardless of unit or posting, do well to take his advise. Junior Officers are wise in heeding his advice as well, because there is nothing the Command Sergeant Major does not know.
