In the 7th Cavalry, Sergeant (SGT) is a rank (Administratively known as Sergeant E-5 (SGT)). The rank of Sergeant is the entree to a hallowed fraternity. Sergeants run the Army, of that there can be no doubt. A Sergeant is a proven leader and can lead a Section or even a Platoon if necessary, as well as serve as NCOIC of a Secondary billet. The Sergeant is where the axe meets the stone.

Requirements

  • No Negative Counseling Statements during the last sixty (60) days.
  • No Article 15 in the last sixty (60) days.
  • Important part of Section and Secondary Billet activities.
  • Secondary billet assignment or assignment to a Section Leader billet.
  • Active participation in Section activities and/or secondary billets.
  • Ability to conduct Section training as directed by the Section Leader.
  • Selected as a Section Leader.
  • Recommendation from Section Leader.
  • Completion of NCO Academy.

Minimum TIG

  • Four (4) months at the rank of Corporal.
